- Tonight we went to the english language movie, The Pink Panther 2. We both enjoyed it more than we expected.
The coolest part is the theater is in this building, the International Culture and Arts Center, located right off of the main square, on Institutska Street. It's quite a historical buildiing for Kyiv. Prior to the Russian Revolution of 1917, it housed the Seminary for Young Ladies. After the revolution it was renamed the October Palace (and the street was renamed October Revolution Street) and was used by the government, including a branch of the KGB.
During the Second World War, it was almost destroyed but then renovated and renamed the October Palace of Culture and used mostly primarily as a concert hall. After the breakup of the Soviet Union, it was renamed to its current name, and the street was changed back to its original name.
Branch of the KGB… Hmmm… I also heard rumors that they used to have a prison/torture something or other in the basement…
