- Babi Yar is a ravine in Kyiv that was the site of a Jewish massacre. On September 39-30, 1941, a special team of German SS troops murdered 33,771 Jewish civilians after taking them into this ravine. In the following months and years, many more thousands of civilians were shot at this site by groups other than than the German troops. It is estimated that more than 100,000 local people were killed during this time.
